The immediate challenge for automakers with vehicles already in transit is how to manage these shipments given the new tariffs. For example, Volkswagen has temporarily halted rail shipments.

  • It’s now clearer that logistics agility is no longer a “nice to have”. It’s essential. Indeed, it's a competitive advantage, especially as pressure on global supply chains increases, as shown by the GSCPI graph below…
  • The above index measures stress in global supply chains, combining data on.
  • Potential variations and delays aside, the focus must switch to determining the appropriate value of the foreign-made portion of the vehicle.

A Global Imaging institution

Fujifilm Corporation and its affiliates employ nearly 40,000 people worldwide. Capitalized at 40 billion yen (€244m), the Japan-founded company, which started with a strong focus on cameras and film, has now diversified to provide products and services in Healthcare (Medical Systems, Bio-CDMO, and LS Solutions), Electronics (Semiconductor Materials, Display Materials, and Other Electronics Materials), and Imaging (Consumer Imaging and Professional Imaging).

A Multimodal Global Partnership

Shippeo works with Fujifilm Europe, covering nearly 250,000 shipments/year, with an 80/20 split between parcels and road. Ocean containers, rail and air are also used, albeit to a lesser extent.

Given Fujifilm’s highly diversified activities, shipments can vary from industrial printing equipment weighing several tons to tiny spare parts no heavier than a few grams.

These are mostly shipments originating from central warehouses throughout Europe, with some of the tracked shipments starting their journey from the factories in Asia.

Solving specific pain points

Fujifilm Europe turned to Shippeo to:

  • Gain visibility on their shipments, especially of parcel, LTL and FTL shipments in Europe;
  • Improve customer experience and reduce operational inefficiencies;
  • Improve logistics performance in order to reduce costs;
  • Optimize its carrier network
  • Track scope 3 CO2e emissions.

Fujifilm wanted not only to track scope 3 carbon emissions for regulatory reasons, but also to enable it to move from “service level+cost” to a more triangular discussion, around service level+cost+sustainability.

Solutions and results

In a relatively short timespan, Fujifilm Europe’s partnership with Shippeo has delivered numerous successes.

  • Improved Customer Satisfaction: Positive feedback from internal Fujifilm teams using Shippeo
  • Optimized personnel efficiency: No longer having to chase carriers on the phone led to a considerably decreased workload for customer care teams. This improvement was particularly noticeable with ocean transport
  • Improved Supply Chain Planning: Continuous analysis of real transportation lead times enables Fujifilm Europe to better anticipate the volume of shipments arriving at central warehouses. This creates a smoother inbound process, including the new ability to track demurrage and detention.
  • Monitored CO₂ Emissions: Fujifilm Europe is now able to track its supply chains’ scope 3 emissions, in compliance with EU regulations (CSRD).

Why Shippeo?

Why did Fujifilm Europe choose Shippeo, as opposed to a competitor?

  • High Data Quality / ETA Performance
  • Proven track record of rapid implementation and onboarding
  • Easy interfacing with SAP
  • GDPR compliance.

“We were convinced that visibility was a basic requirement for our future success in the new markets we were answering. CO2 visibility in the Shippeo platform will be particularly useful for us. We need to move from the traditional balance between service level and cost to a triangle of considerations that includes sustainability”
