Shippeo COO Lucien Besse believes that Shippeo’s position in the 2022 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Real-time Transportation Visibility Platforms reflects the company’s platform innovations and customer-centric strategy.

The Gartner® Magic Quadrant report has become one of the go-to resources for business leaders all over the world when evaluating potential vendors. This year, Gartner has published its second-ever Magic Quadrant for Real-time Transportation Visibility Platforms (RTTVP), as the importance of our rapidly growing sector to the supply chain IT landscape becomes more widely recognized.

I’m pleased to see many of Shippeo’s achievements over the past 12 months reflected in our positioning within this year’s Magic Quadrant. Shippeo is positioned farthest on 'vision' and highest on 'ability to execute' in the Challengers quadrant. We believe, this also reflects the highest positioning in both Magic Quadrant axes overall for a European-headquartered provider, as we continue to close in on our American competition with our growing US-based sales and operations teams.

The ‘ability to execute’ evaluation criteria include our products and services, our sales execution and pricing, our customer experience and our operations, as well as overall viability, market responsiveness and marketing execution. ‘Completeness of vision’ focuses on our potential and points to our future likelihood of success.

In addition to our Magic Quadrant positioning, we believe our 4.7/5 overall score from customers in Gartner® Peer Insights™ and our 96%* ‘willingness to recommend’ score, which is the highest in our category, further reflects the increasing value we’ve been providing to our customers and their supply chain ecosystems.

We’re also proud to have achieved a 10/10 rating for Product Direction in G2’s latest Spring 2022 Grid for Supply Chain Visibility. These are all highly important metrics for us, reassuring us that we’re providing our customers with better value, and delivering what we promise.

This high customer satisfaction was helped by the tremendous progress we made across all aspects of our business, including:

  • - Growing our team to more than 220 Shippians (and counting)
  • - Achieving 102% annual revenue growth in 2021
  • - Onboarding 94% of all carriers within 30 days (71% were within just a week)
  • - Reaching average tracking rates above 80% thanks to better quality integrations, our AI-powered analysis tool for analyzing root causes of low tracking rates (the Smart Tracking Analyzer), and other initiatives taking advantage of our AI and ML capabilities
  • - Improving our shipment ETA accuracy by a giant 32%, improving overall reliability for customers
  • - Welcoming some of the most iconic brands in the world including Renault Group, Coca-Cola HBC, as well as beverage company Rotkäppchen-Mumm, automotive parts specialist Woco Group and cable and energy solutions provider Nexans

Creating value for customers with our values-led approach

The RTTVP market is a competitive one, which we believe, is further evidenced by one of Gartner’s own analysts leaving the research firm only to join one of the surveyed vendors part-way through development of the latest report.

We know the importance companies place on partnering with companies with strong, similar values, in addition to strong financial performance. Our values, and how they’re embodied and demonstrated every day, is also critically important for earning our customers’ trust. Shippeo is a strongly value-based company, and this is reflected in our:

  • - Internal values (ambition, commitment, team spirit and simplicity) and culture, and the people we recruit
  • - Straightforward and transparent approach to conducting business, based on trust, collaboration and genuine partnerships
  • - Strong customer focus, anchored in our triple guarantees for onboarding speed, shipment tracking quality and ETA accuracy
  • - Respect for competitors, with an aversion to bad-mouthing

Being the provider of choice for carriers, as well as shippers

At Shippeo, we firmly believe that the supply chain ecosystems of the future will exist within, and rely heavily on, a ‘network of networks’. That neutrality is a key enabler of fluid and functional networks and ecosystems, which ultimately delivers the best outcomes for customers. This was the basis of our decision to enable our platform to integrate openly with other visibility platforms. It’s an important component of our go-to-market strategy, and differentiator, given some RTTV providers contractually prevent their customers from integrating with other visibility solutions.

We’ve also made a point of ensuring neutrality for our carrier partners. We think this is incredibly important, as we’re seeing more and more integration of freight-matching services into RTTVPs, and carriers tell us that they are becoming more and more concerned by this. Freight forwarder customers will find themselves competing with their own supplier.

We have committed to not developing any freight matching style solutions and we remain strongly opposed to this. Such capabilities would undermine the neutrality we offer carriers, which can in turn create distrust and an unwillingness to cooperate. The carrier community plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation visibility and without their involvement, support and trust, new possibilities for supply chain ecosystem collaboration and ‘convergence’ will be held back.

Shippeo also doesn’t charge carriers to use our platform, which is not always the case with other providers. We encourage carrier openness and willingness to work with us by creating respectful, mutually beneficial relationships. This is epitomized by our Voice of Carrier program, which hundreds of carriers participate in. These carriers take part in two business and quality review sessions per year. The program includes a series of feedback sessions for all carrier-related platform enhancements, feature development and roadmap discussions.

A strong roadmap ahead

Shippeo recently celebrated its 8th anniversary. Nearly a decade of pioneering RTTV in Europe and now the world. With our recent expansion into North America, we’re really pleased with our trajectory for product innovation and organic market growth. We think we can bring a lot of value to each new market we enter and the US is no exception. We know there is a huge opportunity to improve customer experience and product quality in this market, and are looking forward to bringing much value here too.
